On Monday IBM announced the next generation of IBM
3592 products. The IBM System Storage TS1140 Tape Drive will be available on

The TS1140 tape drive supports
the IBM System Storage TS3500 Tape Library. The TS1140 features three media
options. The 3592 Advanced data tape cartridge, JC, provides up to 4.0 TB
native capacity; the 3592 Advanced WORM cartridge, JY, provides up to 4.0 TB;
and for fast access the Economy cartridge, JK, with up to 500 GB. General
availability for media is July 22, 2011.
Hardware summary:
- Linear Serpentine recording
- 4 TB native capacity using JC/JY media
- 1.6 TB native capacity using JB/JX media
- 500 GB native capacity using JK media
- 800 MBps burst data rate
When the TS1140 drives are available you will receive a new
3592 Vol-Ser Label and Initialization Order Guide and a new 3592 Product Guide,
both will reflect the additional options available with the new drive.
